Holocaust why did it happen and why was there no resistance?

I recently watched Schindler's list, by the way, its a masterpiece! i have also read Gerald Green's "Holocaust". after all this, i've been asking, what did thpse millions of poor jews do to deserve such unspeakable cruelty and hatred.also, am, African, so i cant really tell the difference between the jews and the Caucasians, cos some of the jews were actually blonde. Also, could anyone suggest other good books on the holocaust?
